Hey guys,

I have not been extraordinarily active on DA for the past month and before I know it, my premium membership is up T_T
Well on a happy note, I've done up my new website!

jamiecphotos.com

It is hosted by livebooks and I must say I am extremely impressed by their services and design. So for all you photographers looking for a nice photo website, do consider livebooks(:

I've been really busy with school works, exhibitions, workshops, commercial shoots and next Friday will be one of my biggest event shoots ever! With Nokia as the client and the fact that I am dealing with instant prints, I really cannot screw this up>.<

Well I hope you guys are well and bringing your camera everywhere along with you(:

Regards,
Jamie

PS: I'll really miss this journal skin! Its so pretty!!!

Before I start on my post for March, I would just like to give a shout out to my Japanese friends who are reading this to drop me an email if you guys are alright. My thoughts are with you, your families and the people affected by this disaster. Please stay safe!

Noise Opening

Just the other day, I watched Chase Javis's conversation with Vincent Laforet and they touched on something that I really agreed on.
That if only clients would look beyond a photographer's portfolio and give them the creative space to try something different. They discuss about how clients look for you because you are good at certain stuff but never take the gamble for you to try something different.

I can so relate to what they are saying because as my clients would go through my portfolio and go 'oh so you shot for this this this and that event!'
After some thought, they give me an assignment -a similar event that I had already done. Whatever happened to the 'I don't care how you do it, just do it' kind of mindset? Why won't clients trust an artist to come up with something brilliant even though they had never done it before?
I mean I am just dying to meet a client that goes 'yea your event stuff are good now lets see you shoot a concert. And I know I will do a great job shooting a concert! Just that I always get assigned to events...

If only clients are willing to take the gamble and just trust photographers/ film makers *insert profession* to come up with something amazing even though it is not within their portfolios. After all, this is art and if one of Laforet's dream is to get a client to let him shoot Lady Gaga's music video, my dream would be to get a client to let me shoot Eric Clapton's concert or just any other concert for now.

Who knows the DP of Lady Gaga's next music video could be Laforet himself and I would totally look forward to that because Laforet is such an amazing film maker!

Eitherways, it's going to be a busy march for me as I look forward to traveling and shooting in April. Hope you guys are well and shooting! As always, my thoughts are with all who are affect by the disaster.

Take care and stay safe!
Jamie

For those of you guys in Singapore, do pop by to Orchard ION's basement level where NOISE SIngapore is having a feature exhibition for last year's open Category submission.

I am really fortunate to be included in this exhibition as hey, who do not like seeing your works in print(: *Cough*FREE PRINT*Cough* 8D

Ending off with a photo of me and my mentor/ teacher who double up as one of my best friends(:

Alright. Maybe I am not exactly that joyful given that I was down with a really high fever but February started on a really good note for me as I got my very first DD<333

  Chingay Parade 2

Many thanks to :icon3wyl: for suggesting a DD 8D

I was really shocked! I had over 600+ messages when I logged in and honestly, I did not even remember posting that image on DA>.<
Getting a DD is a really incredible experience for me as just the thought that my work reached out to over 6000 people in a day is enough to make me go 'wow'
Think about it in Mozart's day. I doubt he had 6000 people attending his concert in a day which is why the power of social media is so incredible.
I mean you can view images from around the world via you phone! How ridiculous is that as compared to the time where we were still using film and sending images via telegram or something.

Wet wet world

I also gained a bunch of new watchers so for those of you guys reading my journal for the first time, hihi! I am a photographer who always ramble on and on but I really hope you enjoy my works(: I have a bunch of buttons below my Deviant ID so if you guys are interested, you can read about the drama in my life by clicking on the blogger button, view more of my documentary/ reportage works by clicking on the Leica and Wordpress button or follow me on twitter where I post up random images whenever I can!

Lastly, I was just wondering. Since my DA account has more Still Life aka BJD images as compared to my street/ reportage works, who is watching what and which category do you wish to see more of?

February is a really busy month for me but I will find the time to shoot and I hope you guys are shooting as much as you can as well! Take care everyone!

Regards,
Jamie

I just posted two image from my fashion photography set which can be found here myperfectbutterfly.wordpress.c… at my photoblog.

January was a busy and interesting month for me. In terms of shooting what I like, I shot Thaipusam again this year and it was really fun! You can check out my images here myperfectbutterfly.wordpress.c…

Thaipusam 2011

Thaipusam 2011

Thaipusam has always been one of my favorite shoots of the year and this year, it is no exception. I was very fortunate to once again be shooting along side with Mathias www.mathiasheng.com/thaipusam.…
His images and the way he shoots are really interesting and brilliant! He uses a Leica M9 with the 35mm while I shot with the Canon 5D with the 35mm F2 and the 24-70mm F2.8
My blog post on Thaipusam here myperfectbutterfly.blogspot.co…

School has been pretty mundane for me. Especially the up coming block where we have to do a project that has practically nothing to do with photography. So much for being a 'photo major'.
Anyways, this is just a small update to round off January and I hope that you guys are doing well and are still out there shooting no matter how busy you are.

Take care and Happy Chinese New Year!

Regards,
Jamie
